Mage Leveling Guide

Mage Leveling Guide – The World of Warcraft Mage

The Mage is one of the most enjoyable classes you can play. They are a casting class, meaning they use their powerful magic to do burst and AOE damage to enemies. They can output massive amounts of damage in a short time, either directed towards one specific enemy, or an entire group of mobs.

The WoW Mage also has one of the best methods of crowd control, utilizing their sheep spell. Just like it sounds, this ability turns the enemy mob into a sheep and disables their ability to do anything for the duration of the spell. This is often used to control situations where you have 4 or 5 mobs. One mob will be sheeped in order to lessen the workload on the tank and healers. Due to this ability and their massive direct damage spells, Mages are a much sought after addition to any group.

There are 3 Races per faction that can be a mage :

Alliance

  • Gnome
  • Human
  • Draenai

Horde

  • Undead
  • Trolls
  • Blood Elves

Talent Builds

The three talent trees for a Mage are arcane, fire, and frost. All three have very specific play styles and all can be used for leveling. Personally, I like to use frost for leveling because I like the extra control over my mobs.

PvP

Mages are a tricky class to play in PvP. While they have extensive burst damage and their AOE’s can prevent node capture, their low armor and HP can often make them easy targets. They are often referred to as “glass cannons” for this reason. With enough practice, a mage can be a deadly opponent in 1 on 1 pvp and is a great addition to any Arena team.
